Drifting

In the January 2011 paper called The Christian Chronicle we were reminded of a couple of things which took place in Churches of Christ in America. On page 5 we were told that the church in Pharr, Texas had started a dental clinic. The article said, “A new mobile dental clinic established by the Church of Christ North offers free dental care to needyTexans.” It went on to say they had treated 29 patients in its first use.
Kind friend, I am not opposed to dental care. But where in all the Bible does one find authority for taking money from the church treasury and building a dental clinic? This would not have happened in any congregation forty years ago! We are drifting.
On the same page I read, from Fayetteville, Georgia this: “Precinct 14 voters, who cast ballots at the Fayetteville Church of Christ were greeted with sweet smells coming from the church kitchen. Election Day workers were surprised with coffee and cinnamon rolls for breakfast as well as soups and salad for lunch and dinner.”

Again, my friends I am not opposed to eating quality food. But where in all the bible does one find authority from the church treasury to build a church kitchen and serve the public with coffee, cinnamon rolls, soups and salads? If you know where the passage is located, please send it to me. Brethren, we have drifted the last 30 or 40 years. WH.
